KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City police say two people have been hospitalized after being hit by an SUV while pushing their car to a gas station Sunday.

Police spokeswoman Doaa El-Ashkar said the driver of a Tahoe and a passenger were pushing the SUV after it ran out of gas, the Kansas City Star reported.

While they were pushing, she said a silver Chevy Traverse SUV struck them. The driver of the Traverse then abandoned the vehicle in the road and fled.

The passenger of the out-of-gas Tahoe has been hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver was hospitalized with injuries that are not life-threatening.
