TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - A teenage boy wounded in a Toledo street shooting this week has died from his injuries, authorities said, while a younger boy shot in the same incident remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Tyler Jackson, 15, and Vashawn Carrington, 10, were both shot around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday near a church in the area of Avondale and Brown avenues. Authorities said a group of children was gathered at the site when the shootings occurred, but it’s not yet known what sparked the gunfire or who fired the shots.
Both boys were taken to a hospital, where Jackson was pronounced dead on Thursday. Authorities have said Carrington’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
No other injuries were reported in the shootings, which remains under investigation.
Carrington’s 34-year-old father, Christopher, was fatally shot in March at an after-hours club in Toledo. It’s not yet known if the two shootings are connected, authorities said.
