The loss by Joe Kennedy III in the Democratic senatorial primary marks the end of the Kennedy dynasty in the Bay State (“Ed Markey fends off challenger Joe Kennedy in Massachusetts Senate primary,” Web, Sept. 1). It is for the best.

The Kennedy clan felt they were entitled to political power and prestige. For over seven decades they have been a force to be reckoned with. Now, the fourth generation will have to retreat to the private sector, where their wealth and prominence originated with the patriarch Joseph Kennedy before World War II.

Now they will find what the true genius of America is (i.e., the free market). This is a lesson that any West-of-the-Berkshires resident has experienced all these decades.

Best to you, Joe III, and I hope that you find in yourself what most of us who have had to earn self-esteem rather than inherit it as an entitlement have found.
