BERLIN, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont State Police is planning to move its barracks in the central part of the state from Middlesex to Berlin.
The Times Argus reports the plans call for renovating the state-owned building that once housed the Midstate Regional Library just off Interstate 89 in Berlin into a state-of-the-art barracks.
Work could start this fall. It is scheduled to be completed by late 2021.
The Berlin barracks would replace the existing facility in Middlesex that is deteriorating with age. The layout of the Middlesex building, which “does not meet the programmatic needs of evolving public safety operations,” said a message from public safety officials.
The Middlesex facility is one of 10 State Police “field stations.” It covers all of Washington County and the Orange County towns of Orange, Washington and Williamstown.
