SMITHTON, Mo. (AP) - A central Missouri man who allegedly told authorities he ran over his wife with a truck because she “had the devil in her” has been charged with first-degree murder in her death.

Michael Brown, 33, of Smithton, faces six other felonies related to the events surrounding the death of Maria Brown, 32, on Sept. 16 in Smithton, The Sedalia Democrat reported.

The couple had a physical domestic dispute before Maria Brown was run over by the truck, according to court documents. Two juveniles who were in the truck at the time were not injured.

A witness at a home where Michael Brown stopped after his wife was hit told investigators that he spoke repeatedly about religion and said “the devil was ’in Maria’ and that God wanted him to run her over, according to court documents.

Brown is being held without bond in the Pettis County jail. Online court records do not name an attorney for him.
