LAS VEGAS (AP) - September has already brought temporary relief from record high temperatures in Las Vegas, ending a 61-day triple-digit streak which ran from July 1 to Aug. 31, experts said.
The streak was the second-longest in Las Vegas history, meteorologist Trevor Boucher said, adding that the 66-day record was set in 1944.
The streak ended after the National Weather Service reported the hottest August on record for Las Vegas, with a record-breaking average temperature of 95.6 degrees, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Last month broke the previous average high record of 94.4 degrees recorded in August 2018.
Boucher said the heat is expected to return with an excessive heat warning citing temperatures between 103 and 110 through Labor Day weekend.
“The record for Labor Day is a high of 108 degrees and a low of 83 degrees,” Boucher said. “This year, we’re expecting to pass the record on both ends.”
