OPINION:
Minneapolis City Council, eat crow.
In the face of rising crime, the socialist-slash-Marxist-slash-unicorn-dreaming delusional of local government — the ones who spent oh-so-long denouncing police, defunding police, trying to replace police with some sort of soft and fuzzy enforcement team armed only with “Time Out” cards to slap on criminals — in the face of real crime hazards, these guys now want to cry for the police.
For the police they hate.
That’s called hypocrisy. That’s called outrageous.
That’s called “no duh.”
Jamal Osman, one of the newest members of the Minneapolis Marxist society called the City Council, said to the local police chief, Medaria Arradondo, at a special work session held this week: “Residents are asking, ’Where are the police?’ “
Umm … at home hiding from the firebomb-tossing criminals who the City Council won’t let them arrest? Even police have families they’d like to see at the end of the day. Even police have kids they’d like to hug and tuck in at night.
“[The police department] is the only public safety option they have at the moment,” Osman went on. “MPD. They rely on MPD. And [the residents] are saying they are nowhere to be seen.”
There’s the “no duh” moment.
If you tell police they can’t do their jobs, if you strip police of the ability to do their jobs, if you telecast to the criminals in the streets that police have been forbidden from doing their jobs, the obvious outcomes are a) emboldened criminals, b) hikes in crime and c) police who stay home — or at least, a good safe distance from the crimes in progress they aren’t allowed to stop, and from the criminals, some of whom are violent, they aren’t allowed to arrest.
Where’s the difficulty in understanding that?
Defund police equals upticks in crime.
Disband police departments equals roll out the welcome mat for criminals.
Lisa Bender, the president of the Minneapolis council, said she’s heard from citizens who’ve heard from police who’ve heard on the street that word is — police are purposely failing to arrest criminals.
Gasp. Gasp?
No duh.
The council is getting exactly what it wanted — a mini-Marxist society, complete with all its chaos and confusion and lawlessness in the streets.
Let the accountability hit hard. It’s only too bad the innocent and law-abiding citizens have to suffer the consequences hardest.
