FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky election officials have received more than 320,000 requests for absentee ballots for the November election, Secretary of State Michael Adams told lawmakers Wednesday.

That total, representing requests as of Tuesday, is about 80,000 below the number at the same point leading up to the June primary, Adams said.

The state’s November election plan stops short of the no-excuse absentee voting by mail allowed in the primary because of the coronavirus pandemic. But it allows Kentuckians to request absentee ballots if they believe they’re at risk from COVID-19.

Adams also said voters will have more Election Day voting locations in November than were available in June. Adams and Gov. Andy Beshear have veto power over county election plans. So far, they have approved 48 county plans, Adams said. Among those plans, only Nicholas County has just one voting location for Nov. 3, he said.

Kentucky also will allow three weeks of in-person early voting.
