HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A man accused of striking a Connecticut state trooper with a car while fleeing a traffic stop was arrested Tuesday on nine charges including assaulting a public safety officer.

Jayquan Richardson, 22, of Windsor, was taken into custody at his job in Willington, state police said. He later posted $25,000 bond after a court arraignment in Hartford and was ordered to return to court on Oct. 27.

State police Sgt. Timothy Begley pulled over Richardson on Interstate 84 in Hartford on July 19 for suspicion of driving under the influence, according to authorities.

In a police report, Begley said he smelled marijuana coming from the car and ordered Richardson to hand over the keys. A front-seat passenger began handing Begley the keys when Richardson sped off and struck the trooper, according to the report.

Begley was treated for minor injuries.

Contact information for Richardson could not immediately be found. Court documents do not list a lawyer for Richardson.
