MILWAUKEE (AP) - Members of Jacob Blake’s family were among about 100 protesters a rally in Milwaukee on Saturday in the wake of the Black man’s shooting by police.
Blake was shot seven times in the back by a Kenosha police officer on Aug. 23 during a dispute and is paralyzed from the waist down. The shooting sparked days of protest and unrest in Kenosha as demonstrators clashed with law enforcement.
In Milwaukee, Blake’s uncle, Justin, said his nephew is “holding on” and called for the arrest of the Kenosha police officer who shot him.
Maria Hamilton marched with the crowd to Red Arrow Park, the scene where her son Dontre was killed in 2014 by a Milwaukee police officer.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports many protesters came with long stem red roses and one by one laid them at Hamilton’s feet at Red Arrow Park.
While the death of her son caused dozens of marches around Milwaukee, this time Hamilton was marching for Jacob Blake and alongside members of his family.
Hamilton urged the marchers to keep protesting and thanked them “for their undying love for human life.”
