NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (AP) - A person was killed after climbing underneath a UPS truck that was stopped in traffic in New Paltz, police said.

The person climbed under the truck shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday and was dragged along the village’s Main Street without the driver being aware that the individual was there, police told the Poughkeepsie Journal.

New Paltz Police Chief Robert Luchesi said the person was eventually dislodged and pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s name was not released.

UPS officials told the newspaper they were cooperating with the investigation into the death.
