OPINION:
Republican attorneys general around the nation have been busily gathering, huddling and strategizing how to best offset a worst-case scenario this coming Election Day — a win for Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Just in case — it’s a phrase that saves.
And in this case, it’s a phrase that marks a preparation to save the nation from, let’s be honest here, socialism-slash-communism-slash-collectivism rule. That’s right, rule.
This is comforting.
It gives hope for a constitutional future, one that could survive even the worst internal leftist attack, the worst internal leftist takeover — which is actually what would occur under a Biden-Harris administration.
Not that the Republican AGs think President Donald Trump will lose reelection. But, just in case.
“We are preparing for two Category 5 storms,” said Adam Piper, executive director of the Republican Attorneys General Association, in a telephone interview.
Hurricane Joe Biden. And Hurricane Kamala Harris, he said. And it’s true; they threaten to inflict everything from massive tax increases to massive environmental regulation increases to massive losses of individual liberties.
So. The nation’s 26 Republican attorneys general and their staffers have mapped out a legal strategy to keep America on a constitutional path, should Biden-Harris hurricanes touch down. They’ve played some war games — worked out some “what-if” scenarios — determined some states-level courses of action to take if the Biden-Harris storm team comes to Capitol Hill.
It’s kind of like when Eric Holder left the U.S. attorney general position under former President Barack Obama and went to California to fight Trump’s law and order policies. Remember that?
“California Hires Eric Holder as Legal Bulwark Against Donald Trump,” The New York Times wrote, in January of 2017.
“Eric Holder Hired by California for Legal Battles Against Trump,” NBC News reported, that same time.
“California Legislature hires Eric Holder to help fight Trump,” Mercury News wrote, that same year.
It’s kind of like that — only better. Bigger, more cohesive and better.
The Republican Attorneys General Association has a solid record of beating back unconstitutional, leftist, ridiculously overreaching government programs, policies and plans, including the Clean Power Plan that would’ve cost America, by one estimate, $600 billion. And the group’s been engaged in a “Lawless Liberals” campaign that’s been showcasing, with blunt advertisement imagery, the utter disregard the Democrats and their leftist minions in the streets have for, well, law.
“No group of elected officials have been more supportive of President Trump,” Piper said.
And the optimist view of the political landscape is that Trump will win reelection, handily, because sanity not socialism and thuggery will prevail.
But, just in case.
It’s good to know there’s a plan in place.
