Former Labor Department secretary Robert Reich tweeted recently: “When this nightmare is over, we need a Truth & Reconciliation Commission. It would erase Trump’s lies, comfort those who have been harmed by his hatefulness, and name every official, politician, executive, and media mogul whose greed and cowardice enabled this catastrophe.”

No plan ever survives contact with the enemy. The diminutive Mr. Reich would understand that if he had ever served in the military instead of having been an “activist” (i.e. ’community organizer’ and faculty lounge lizard). In other words, he is one of the anointed who organizes the “cannon fodder” but never actually gets their own hands dirty. Many Black people, though not enough yet, are waking up to the fact that they are the ones doing the dirty work of “direct action” — while the “organizers” sit safely far from the violence in places like Martha’s Vineyard, Kalorama and Berkeley, California, munching on avocado toast and cheering them on.

Be careful what you wish for, Mr. Reich. As we’ve been saying since before Reagan, a government powerful enough to give you all you want is powerful enough to take it all away. Once the Progressives achieve that, what do the opposition have to lose? Then the real action begins. You cannot enslave a free man; you can only kill him. And who has more experience with and owns more guns than the people you wish to put on trial?

I don’t think Mr. Reich possesses the numbers to pull it off. Once he starts down that road, he will find it hard to find an off ramp.
