The Washington Football Team officially placed Landon Collins on injured reserve Tuesday, days after the safety tore his Achilles against the Dallas Cowboys.
Collins’ season is over and he’ll reportedly have surgery next Monday. In a corresponding move, the team promoted safety Jeremy Reaves to the 53-man roster.
Collins is expected to be healthy for the 2021 season. The 26-year-old was into his second year of the six-year, $84 million deal he signed with Washington last season.
On Monday, Jack Del Rio said he’s been in contact with Collins to encourage him.
“He got out of there (after the game) before I could get to him,” Del Rio said. “I just sent him a text and encouraged him to keep his head up, keep his spirits high and heal up and obviously that we’d miss him. Love and respect to him. Heal up. We’re going to carry on.”
After Collins’ injury, Washington used seventh-rounder Kam Curl at strong safety.
ESPN first reported the news of Collins’ surgery date.
