CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire has received more than $12.3 million to help protect children and families from lead-based paint.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grants are going to the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority, the city of Nashua, and Sullivan County.
The authority has received about $4.3 million in lead-based paint hazard reduction grant funding and $700,000 in healthy homes funding. They will address lead hazards in 226 housing units to provide safer homes for low- and very low-income families with children.
Nashua, which is getting $5 million in hazard reduction funding and $700,000 in healthy homes funding, will address lead hazards in 250 housing units.
Sullivan County is getting $1.3 million in hazard reduction funding and $400,000 in healthy homes funding to address hazards in 60 housing units.
The funding is part of $165 million being awarded nationally to 44 state and local government agencies in 23 states. The announcement comes during Lead Poising Prevention Week, Oct. 25-31.
