SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Two men in a car involved in a drag race died early Friday when they lost control and crashed into another vehicle, Springfield police said.
The driver and his passenger were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred in the city’s Sixteen Acres neighborhood at about 1:30 a.m., police spokesman Ryan Walsh said.
No names were released but Ryan described them both as young men.
The initial investigation showed that two vehicles were drag racing when one lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a vehicle registered to American Medical Response, an emergency medical services company, Walsh said.
The AMR vehicle was not an ambulance and was not responding to an emergency at the time, he said. The driver was not hurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
