BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A contract worker fell into a well on the site of a wastewater treatment plant in Buffalo on Thursday, officials said.
The Buffalo Sewer Authority contract worker fell into a well that eventually emptied into the Niagara River at around 11 a.m. Thursday, WGRZ-TV reported. Rescue crews worked to locate him until dusk on Thursday.
Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo told the broadcaster the contract worker was not tethered to anything when he fell. Officials did not describe what the contractor was doing when he fell and did not release his name.
He was working at a wastewater treatment plant on Bird Island, which is located in the Niagara River between Buffalo and Ontario.
The Buffalo police department said his body was recovered overnight on Friday.
