MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s unemployment rate dipped slightly to 4.2% in September, according to the state Labor Department.
The rate was down six-tenths of a percentage point from August.
“While the data shows that employment increased in September, we know there are still many Vermonters out of work and businesses unable to operate at full capacity,” as a result of the pandemic, Labor Commissioner Michael Harrington said in a written statement on Tuesday.
More and more jobs are coming online daily but businesses can only open if they can fill their vacant positions, he said.
“If you are unemployed, or know someone who is unemployed, and are able to return to work, now is the time to begin actively looking for employment if you are not actively doing so,” he said.
Around the state, the unemployment rate ranged from 3% in White River Junction to 6.7% in Woodstock.
