OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The number of people hospitalized either with the coronavirus or under investigation for infection was at a record high on Friday, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
There were 793 people hospitalized as the number of hospitalizations have increased since first surpassing 700 on Oct 7, according to the department.
The health department also reported 1,472 new cases and 11 more deaths due to COVID-19, the illness caused by the disease.
There have been 105,308 reported cases and 1,154 who died since the pandemic began in March. The true number of coronavirus cases in Oklahoma is likely higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick.
There are 14,339 active cases of the virus in the state, according to the health department, and 89,815 people have recovered.
For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
