Vikings running back Dalvin Cook continued his scorching start to the season with a touchdown early in the first quarter against the Lions on Sunday, bursting through the line and lunging for the goal line.

The latest score was Cook’s 12th total touchdown this season, and he’s scored in each of the seven games he’s played in so far. That makes the 25-year-old ball carrier the first player since Emmitt Smith in 1994 to score a rushing touchdown in each of his first seven games of the campaign.

It’s good company to be with. Smith, a Hall of Famer, rushed for 164 touchdowns in a 15-year career. Cook, in just his fourth season, is building an impressive resume himself. In 2019, he earned a Pro Bowl appearance after rushing for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns. He could outdo those numbers this season.

Last week, Cook steamrolled the Packers, scoring four touchdowns in that win.
