President Trump’s vow to settle election disputes in court has left Stephen Colbert in tears.

The “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” host could barely compose himself Thursday evening after watching the Republican’s press conference to the American people.

“We all knew he would do this. What I didn’t know is that it would hurt so much. I didn’t expect this to break my heart,” Mr. Colbert, barely able to speak, said after a prolonged pause.

Mr. Trump told Americans that he will fight for an “honest election and an honest count,” a reaction to large leads over Democratic challenger Joseph R. Biden disappearing as swing-states announced mail-in ballot results.

The president’s team maintains that a lack of transparency, statistical outliers favoring Mr. Biden, and reports of fraud warrant a fight that might lead to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Everything is now in some way presidential behavior — including this — unless every single person rejects what he just did,” Mr. Colbert continued. “And that means, for all the predictable behavior of the last few days, last four years, right now something unpredictable needs to happen.”
