Add the Chicago Bears to the list of teams who need a new quarterback next offseason.

That was already known before Chicago’s 41-25 loss to the Green Bay Packers on “Sunday Night Football,” but Mitchell Trubisky reinforced the point when he was given another opportunity to be under center.

Reader, it did not go well.

Trubisky threw two interceptions and lost a fumble as he struggled badly in his first start since Week 3, when he was benched for veteran Nick Foles. The Bears went back to Trubisky for Sunday’s game after Foles suffered a hip injury two weeks ago.

The Bears are in a free fall after starting the season 5-1, having now lost five straight.

Heading into the Packers’ game, there was hope that Trubisky could perhaps reignite the offense. After making the switch to Foles, the Bears’ unit did not improve and quarterback play is a large reason why Chicago hasn’t sustained its early season success.

Trubisky, though, didn’t provide the spark needed. The Bears fell behind early — trailing 27-3 with 3:11 left in the first half when former Washington linebacker Preston Smith forced a Trubisky fumble and returned it for a touchdown.

Trubisky did manage to throw three touchdowns, but only when Chicago was already down double digits. He finished with 242 yards on 26 of 46 passing.

Following the loss, Trubisky, the second overall pick in 2017 who was drafted ahead of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, was asked if he thought he played well enough to earn the start next week.

“I don’t know,” he told reporters. “That’s not my call.”
