JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Heath officials on Friday reported 1,005 new cases of COVID-19 and six deaths in Mississippi.

The state has now recorded 146,387 cases and 3,769 deaths, The Clarion-Ledger reported.

Hospitalizations are also increasing. The most recent information available from this week shows that 942 people were hospitalized with confirmed infections from the virus. That’s up from 680 patients two weeks ago.

DeSoto County has the highest number of reported cases in the state with 9,953, followed by Hinds County with 9,892. Harrison County has 7,045, Jackson County has 6,270 and Rankin County has 5,462.
