MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police are urging people to drive responsibly, buckle up and have a designated driver during the Thanksgiving holiday and weekend.
Police say there have been 60 traffic fatalities in Vermont so far this year. They say 45% of the fatal crashes involved impaired drivers and 57% of those who died were not properly restrained with seat belts.
State police say there will be no tolerance for people who make the reckless decision to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“Traffic enforcement is a critical mission to the Vermont State Police and remains one of the most effective tools in keeping our roads safe, but we cannot do it alone,” Vermont State Police Lt. Tara Thomas said in a written statement.
