HUGO, Okla. (AP) - Human remains found in southeastern Oklahoma have been identified as those of a Hugo man reported missing in 2008, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday.
The remains are those of John Lafayette Mangrum, who was 67 when he disappeared.
A missing person report on Mangrum was filed on March 30, 2008, with the Hugo Police Department and members of Mangrum’s immediate family provided DNA that was submitted to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
The remains, which were found in August 2018, were identified by the University of North Texas Health Center using the DNA from Mangrum’s family, according to the OSBI, which said Mangrum’s death is considered suspicious.
