LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles police officer was injured by gunfire in a confrontation with an armed man who was causing a disturbance in a supermarket, police said.
The officer’s injury was not life-threatening, the Police Department said on social media Sunday night.
Officers were called to a Ralphs market in the San Fernando Valley around 6:30 p.m. and the shooting occurred when they confronted the man, the department said, but gave no details.
The officer was struck at that time and the suspect fled the store and went into another business.
The man later came out and was taken into custody.
Police said the suspect was not struck by gunfire but was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.
A firearm was recovered at the scene but police did not say whether it had been fired.
“Officer out of hospital with sutures to hand. Grateful,” Police Chief Michel Moore tweeted later.
