Daniel Jones isn’t always the most graceful runner. The New York Giants quarterback will have a hard time living down his stumble and fall during an 80-yard scamper against the Eagles three weeks ago.
But on Sunday, in a rematch with Philadelphia, Jones took an option to the left and weaved his way through defenders. The best part: he didn’t trip. Jones ran the ball in for a 34-yard touchdown.
Jones’ propensity for turnovers has limited his success so far, two years into his NFL career. Still, his clean performance last week against Washington helped secure the Giants their second win of the year.
And while the Duke product doesn’t seem like the most fleet of foot, he has used his legs well when he does decide to pull it down and run. On Sunday, he hit a top speed of over 21 mph as he went untouched into the end zone.

Entering Sunday, Jones averaged 8 yards per carry. And according to Andrew Siciliano of the NFL Network, the only other quarterback to average better with a minimum of 40 attempts is Michael Vick in 2006. His 34-yard rush was his third run of over 30 yards this season, the same amount as Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
New York entered halftime with a 14-3 edge over Philadelphia, its sixth straight game holding a double-digit lead. But the Giants are in the basement of the NFC East because they’ve lost three of those games.
