Darrell Green has observed Dwayne Haskins from afar, and the Washington legend believes he knows the reason the 23-year-old has struggled to get his NFL career on track.

Speaking to WJLA’s Scott Abraham, the Hall of Fame cornerback said Haskins has had a “problem with arrogance” during his two years with the franchise.

Washington benched Haskins last month after four starts and coach Ron Rivera said recently that he’d like to see Haskins work harder to prepare for games.

“I’m on record to say that that kid had if anything he had a problem with arrogance, just being arrogant and maybe overconfident,” Green said. “And I thought if he could get those other non-football issues straight he probably could play football pretty good.”

Green said he would like to see Haskins receive another opportunity. Haskins will be active Sunday for the first time since his demotion, although Alex Smith is set to start ahead of him.

On Monday, Rivera said he wants Haskins to learn from Smith and watch how the 36-year-old prepares for games. Rivera added he thinks Haskins has NFL-level arm talent, but wants to see the 2019 first-rounder “put it all together” by working harder.

I hope they give him the chance, “Green said of Haskins. “I hope he gets another chance to do it. I’d just love to see the kid back in there. It’s got to be painful.”
