BALTIMORE — After missing practice all week with an ankle injury, Ravens running back Mark Ingram is inactive for Sunday’s game against the Steelers, leaving Baltimore to rely on Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins against a staunch run defense.
Ingram suffered an ankle sprain against the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the Ravens’ bye week, and coach John Harbaugh had initially said Ingram would “probably” dress for the matchup with Pittsburgh. Instead, he could also miss next week’s game against Indianapolis, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
So far in 2020, Ingram has rushed for 225 yards and two touchdowns. His absence elevates the roles of Edwards and Dobbins, a rookie from Ohio State who has yet to carve out an exact role in the offense. Dobbins had nine carries for 28 yards in Week 6, along with four targets from quarterback Lamar Jackson. Edwards got 14 carries for 26 yards and a touchdown in that win over the Eagles.
It could be a challenge to run the ball against the Steelers, who enter Sunday’s contest allowing the second-fewest rushing yards per game (68.8). Pittsburgh also allows the fewest yards per game total, conceding 286.3.
“I think their defense — just generally — is very good; run defense, pass defense,” Harbaugh said Wednesday. “They turn you over. They rush the quarterback extremely well.”
Here are the Ravens’ other inactives: quarterback Trace McSorley, defensive end Jihad Ward, offensive lineman Trystan Colon-Castillo, offensive lineman Ben Bredeson, defensive tackle Justin Ellis and defensive tackle Broderick Washington.
Pittsburgh will be without slot corner Mike Hilton, who’s suffering from a shoulder injury. The Steelers’ other inactives are quarterback Josh Dobbs, safety Jordan Dangerfield, linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III, defensive tackle Carlos Davis, offensive tackle Derwin Gray and tight end Zach Gentry.
