BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A business consultant from Stanley has been appointed to the North Dakota Board of Higher Education, Gov. Doug Burgum announced Friday.

Danita Bye has been named to fill the vacancy left by Dan Traynor, who resigned after he was confirmed as a federal judge. Bye is one of eight voting members of the board.

Bye has been a leadership and sales development consultant since 1997 for small- to medium-sized businesses in the science, technology, engineering, manufacturing and medical device industries.

Burgum said Bye’s “passion for education, deep understanding of the business sector and thoughtful insights into the new generation of learners” will help the campuses respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues affecting higher education.

Bye earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology from the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota and a master’s degree in transformational leadership from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Bye’s term runs until June of 2022. Her appointment is subject to confirmation by the state Senate, but she will begin serving on the board immediately.

The board oversees the system’s 11 public colleges and universities.
