BURLESON, Texas (AP) - The pilot of a small plane was killed when the aircraft crashed and burned shortly after takeoff Thursday from a North Texas airport.

The single-engine Cessna crashed around 3:30 p.m. about 1 mile (1.61 kilometers) south of Fort Worth Spinks Airport, about 12 miles (19.31 kilometers) south of Fort Worth, according to a Federal Aviation Administration statement.

The pilot was the lone person aboard the aircraft and was dead at the scene, MedStar EMS spokesman Matt Zavadsky said. There was no immediate word on the pilot’s identity.

No cause has been determined for the crash. The FAA said the National Transportation Safety Board will join it in investigating the incident.
