CALERA, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama city’s police chief of 13 years retired Monday and a former federal agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was set to be sworn in as his replacement.
Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley said he had been planning his retirement for a year and intends to pursue other opportunities, according to Al.com.
“I’m leaving on excellent terms,” the news outlet quoted Lemley as saying. “I love what I do, I’ve got a passion for it and I’ve given it 100 percent. I have nothing but respect for anybody here.”
Lemley worked for the department for 25 years, with more than a decade as its leader.
David Hyche, who recently retired after more than 30 years with the ATF, will step into the role, Al.com said. Hyche served as the bureau’s assistant special agent in charge of Alabama and Tennessee and has lived in Shelby County for 21 years.
Calera is about 30 miles (48.28 kilometers) south of Birmingham.
