LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Nevada man has pleaded guilty to a murder charge in the death of his 46-year-old mother in 2018.
Dakota Saldivar and his half brother, Michael Wilson, were 17 when they stabbed and beat their mother Dawn Liebig to death before burying her in a shallow grave in the desert, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Wednesday.
Saldivar entered his guilty plea on May 12 to second-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, the Nye County district attorney’s office said. Wilson pleaded guilty to the same charge earlier this year.
“Both defendants have now pled guilty to murder charges, which hopefully brings some justice for Dawn Liebig and her loved ones,” district attorney Chris Arabia said.
Wilson told officers that their mother was asleep at their Pahrump home when he stabbed her in the neck, authorities said. Saldivar told deputies that he hit her in the head with a hammer multiple times.
The teenagers did not like her parenting style and were tired of demands and expectations, authorities said.
Both were charged as adults and prosecutors are seeking life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years on the murder charge and up to 20 consecutive years for the use of a deadly weapon enhancement.
Wilson is scheduled to be sentenced June 12. Saldivar is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 11.
