Ben Roethlisberger got a haircut recently. And Pennsylvania’s governor is not happy.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf criticized the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback’s actions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this week, the Steelers released a video of Roethlisberger, which featured a clip of him getting a haircut at a barbershop. Coming off a season-ending elbow injury, Roethlisberger vowed not to cut his hair or trim his beard until he could fully throw a football again. The video shows the quarterback making that declaration, followed by highlights of him working out and getting the haircut.
“My concern is just a general concern,” Wolf said Tuesday during a briefing with reporters.”Anybody who puts himself or herself into harm’s way is something that I think we have to try to avoid. When you go to something like a barbershop and you’re not protected, I don’t care who you are, the chances of that virus actually wreaking havoc on your life increases.
“I don’t personally think any Pennsylvanian ought to take that chance. I certainly don’t want to take that chance myself.”
According to ESPN the barbershop that Roethlisberger attended is in Allegheny County, which is in the “yellow” phase of reopening. Barbershops and hair salons won’t be allowed to reopen until the county’s “green” phase.
In a statement to ESPN on behalf of the owner of the barbershop, attorney Marc Kohnen said the shop has been closed since the state’s shutdown and the owner of the shop did the haircut as a favor to Roethlisberger.
