GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) - The city of Goodyear has a new police chief.

Santiago Rodriguez was promoted to the city’s top cop for the city Monday after serving as acting chief since October amid an investigation of his predecessor.

Jerry Geier had been Goodyear police chief for almost eight years before he was was fired in December following allegations of misconduct. City officials at the time didn’t detail the allegations, but said they were not criminal or financial in nature.

Rodriguez has spent most of his 24 years in law enforcement in the Goodyear agency, working in every division, including patrol, traffic, criminal investigations and community services.

He helped lead efforts to bring body-worn cameras to the department and teaches new officers how to better communicate with the city’s Spanish-speaking community.
