MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A fire at a Tennessee home without a working smoke detector left two men dead, officials said.
Crews responded to a report of a blaze at the home early Saturday, the Memphis Fire Department said in a statement. The men were found unresponsive during a search of the premises and taken to a hospital were they were later pronounced dead. The men died after inhaling smoke from a heavy blaze inside the residence, the statement said. Their names weren’t released.
After the blaze, fire officials urged residents to check their smoke alarms. Memphis residents without working smoke alarms can apply for a free one on-line or by calling the Fire Museum of Memphis.
