ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky man and woman have been arrested and accused of killing the woman’s blind mother, authorities said.
Jacob Lugmayer, 27, and Krystal A. Erbelding, 33, were charged Thursday with murder, robbery and abuse of a corpse, in the death of 63-year-old Kathy Erbelding, news outlets reported.
Elizabethtown Police Department said they were notified of a possible homicide on Thursday. After getting a search warrant, police found Kathy Erbelding dead inside her home.
Hardin County Deputy Coroner Shana Norton said Kathy Erbelding, who was legally blind, was fatally shot in the head and abdomen. Authorities believe she was killed Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
When police arrived, Lugmayer ran into the woods and threw away his phone, Kentucky State Police said.
He was tracked down by authorities and later admitted to attempting to dispose of Kathy Erbelding’s body, police said.
Krystal Erbelding told police she transferred $700 from her mother’s account into hers so she could buy the gun used in the shooting, police said.
She also told police she knew Lugmayer shot her mother, police said.
It’s unclear whether Krystal Erbelding or Lugmayer had attorneys who could comment on their behalf.
