LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A Louisiana prosecutor has been fired for requesting a delay in a murder case without telling the judge that the defense wanted to keep the trial date in April.
Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier fired assistant Jason Brown, who had been suspended without pay for two weeks before his dismissal, The American Press reported. The newspaper said the district attorney’s office confirmed Wednesday that he had been fired at the end of February.
Brown had asked Judge Ron Ware for a delay in the case against Joey Julian, who is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Ernest Samuel Miller in November 2017.
Ware said he was irate when he learned about the defense objection to a trial delay. Julian deserves due process, he said.
The day Brown was suspended, Ware reduced Julian’s bond from $210,000 to $20,000.
