ATLANTA (AP) - Flooding in parts of Georgia prompted Gov. Brian Kemp to declare an emergency in much of the state Thursday.
News outlets in Georgia report that the declaration announced at an afternoon news conference affects all counties south of Interstate 20. It follows recent heavy rains that inundated roads. Rivers, creeks and streams were reported to be rising, even as rainfall was beginning to diminish and move out of the state.
Kemp said the emergency declaration makes it easier to deploy state resources to the affected areas.
