CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming issued its first hemp processing and producing license, the state Department of Agriculture said.
The department announced Wednesday that GF Harvest LLC and Mother’s Hemp Farms LLC received the joint license, The Casper Star-Tribune reports.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved Wyoming’s industrial hemp plan last month and Republican Gov. Mark Gordon signed emergency rules last week to allow a 2020 growing season.
GF Harvest in Powell plans to use the license with Mother’s Hemp Farms to grow and process hemp to be used in high-protein, gluten-free food products, including a Pure Hemp Oats line, the companies said in an announcement.
“This will be our high protein Gluten Free line,” the announcement said. “We will also be using it for oils, hemp seed and other gluten free oat products to enhance the protein and omega properties.”
GF Harvest will first use hemp to enhance the nutritional benefit of oats in products like pancake mixes and its Instant Pot meals, company President Seaton Smith said.
