SYDNEY (AP) - Han Kyo-won’s goal in the 89th minute gave 10-man Jeonbuk Motors a 2-2 draw with Sydney FC in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday.
Trent Buhagiar’s solo effort cancelled out Jeonbuk’s second-half goal, and Adam Le Fondre’s penalty after a Jeonbuk player was sent off for a handball looked like it would be enough for Sydney’s first Asian win in nine games.
But with seconds to go, Murilo Henrique’s shot hit a post and Han drove home the equalizer.
On Tuesday, Malaysian club Johor Darul Ta’zim won the first of only two group stage games unaffected by the coronavirus outbreak.
In February, the Asian Football Confederation rescheduled a number of matches because of the virus. The second round of the competition, originally due to take place in June, will be moved back to August to allow for the completion of the group stage.
Jeonbuk has won seven K-League titles, but had had the opening two matches of its domestic season postponed over virus restrictions.
The South Korean side has reached the knockout stage of the Asian Champions League in each of the last six years including winning the ACL in 2016.
Yokohama FM leads Group H with two wins, while Sydney and Jeonbuk have a point each. Yokohama, coached by former Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou, beat Sydney 4-0 earlier in the round.
