BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) - A line of vehicles parked in front of Tom Wood’s home at 100 Kings Court in Battle Creek last Sunday night, their occupants had gathered to watch a 20-foot tall Elsa sing “Let it Go” along with nine other songs from Disney films.

In the spirit of social distancing, Wood plans to provide a free show for people to enjoy every night from the relative safety of their vehicles, the Battle Creek Enquirer reports.

The roughly half-hour display is a video ranking the top 10 Disney songs, with audio provided to vehicles through a radio transmitter set to 88.7 FM. Wood plans to play it on a loop from 8 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.

“Right now we need joy,” Wood said. “There are so many negative things going on around the world on the news, everything on lockdown. We’re really practicing social distancing and trying to lower that curve. This is just one of those small things that I can do to bring joy to the people that aren’t being able to get out and have that outlet. It’s a safe, easy and entertaining way for people to take a break.”

On Monday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order for Michigan residents to “stay at home.” During the press conference, she noted, “You can go outside. Get some fresh air, walk your dog, just be smart about it and maintain that six-foot distance… Even go outside and put your holiday lights back up.”

Wood, who has a background in technical theater, already owned the equipment needed to project the video thanks to his elaborate Halloween and Christmas light displays. He said he asked permission from neighbors ahead of his previous shows.

Now he’s asking that people simply stop by the side of the road, turn their headlights off and enjoy the larger-than-life projection of popular Disney tunes.

“It’s free, we’re not asking for donations or anything like that,” Wood said. “It is truly just come and enjoy, rain, snow or shine.”
