Quarterback Tom Brady is expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reports from ESPN and NFL Network indicated late Tuesday.
Brady announced on social media Tuesday morning that he would not return to the Patriots after spending all 20 years of his NFL career there, and thanked New England fans on the way out.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said there was an agreement in principle for Brady, 42, to earn “roughly” $30 million per year. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said no announcement had been scheduled yet; Brady can’t technically sign a contract until the new year league begins Wednesday.
One other team reportedly pursued the future Hall of Famer: the Los Angeles Chargers.
