Veteran linebacker Thomas Davis said on Instragram that he’s joining the Washington Redskins to reunite with coach Ron Rivera.

The longtime Carolina Panther was released last week by the Los Angeles Chargers and would add depth to the Redskins’ linebacking corps. Davis, who turns 37 in five days, is a three-time Pro Bowler and helped modernize the linebacker position by helping take away the middle of the field.

Despite his age, Davis was a relatively productive player for the Chargers in 2019. He had 112 tackles and played 82% of the team’s defensive snaps.

Before Los Angeles, Davis, the 14th overall pick in 2005, spent the first 14 seasons of his career with the Panthers. Eight of those seasons happened with Rivera at the helm. Davis is also known for overcoming injuries, tearing his ACL three times throughout his career.

Davis gives the Redskins a veteran’s presence. Washington has added at linebacker this offseason, re-signing starter Jon Bostic and adding Bears linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis.
