The Washington Redskins added depth to their linebacker room Tuesday, agreeing to terms with veteran Kevin Pierre-Louis.
Pierre-Louis will join Washington on a one-year deal, worth up to $3.5 million, the NFL Network reported. The former Chicago Bears linebacker’s deal includes playing time incentives.
In 2019, Pierre-Louis played 213 defensive snaps, the majority of which came over the final four games of the season. The 28-year-old filled in for an injured Roquan Smith and started the final three games.
Selected in the fourth round of the 2014 draft, Pierre-Louis has emerged as a valuable special teams contributor. Besides the Bears, he has also played for the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets.
This is the second linebacker that the Redskins have added in free agency. Washington also agreed to re-sign starter Jon Bostic on a two-year, $6.6 million contract.
Pierre-Louis figures to compete for an outside linebacking spot in the Redskins’ 4-3 defense. In Chicago, he played as an inside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme under Chuck Pagano.
