NBA superstar Kevin Durant tested positive for coronavirus, Durant told The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The Brooklyn Nets announced Tuesday that four of their players tested positive for COVID-19.
“Everyone be careful, take care of yourself and quarantine,” the Prince George’s County native told Charania. “We’re going to get through this.”
Durant is the most high-profile pro athlete to test positive for the virus to date. He has yet to play for the Nets since signing with them last summer due to an Achilles injury he suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals.
Durant said he is feeling “fine.” The Nets said one player was exhibiting symptoms, while three others were not. All four are isolated and under the care of team doctors, the Nets said.
In a statement, the Nets said they’ve been in touch with anyone who has had recent contact with the players, including opponents.
“All players and members of the Nets travel party are being asked to remain isolated, closely monitor their health and maintain constant communication with team medical staff,” the Nets said. “The health of our players and staff is of the highest priority to the organization and the team is doing everything within its power to ensure those affected receive the best care possible.”
Seven NBA players are now confirmed to have the virus. Utah’s Rudy Gobert was the first to be diagnosed and soon, doctors discovered teammate Donovan Mitchell had it. Detroit Pistons center Christian Wood later tested positive as well.
The NBA season remains suspended indefinitely due to the pandemic.
