Washington Capitals winger Tom Wilson encouraged hockey fans to stay safe amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Wilson shared a video of him and his new dog, Halle, delivering a message of solidarity to fans as the NHL season remains suspended indefinitely due to the spread of COVID-19.
“Just wanted to send a quick video to wish you guys well,” Wilson said. “We’re thinking of you. I know you guys miss hockey right now. So do we. It’s just a tough time and it’s important to stay healthy and stay safe and take care of your loved ones.
“Hopefully we’ll be back sooner rather than later,” he added as his puppy, a recently-rescued black lab mix, licked his face.

The NHL sent out updated guidelines to its players Monday, saying they are free to return to their homes, including overseas, but are advised to continue to self-quarantine until March 27.
The guidance also said that the league’s objective is to potentially open NHL training camps “roughly 45 days into the 60-day period covered by the CDC’s directive,” which would mean practices would resume at the end of April in a best-case scenario.
