Jerry Falwell Jr. said Friday the “hyped” over and “overreacting” to the coronavirus could be the latest attempt “to get” President Trump.
Speaking on “Fox & Friends,” Mr. Falwell, the president of Liberty University, one of the largest Christian universities, said that when 17,000 people died from the H1N1 virus in 2009 that “there was not the same hype” and “you didn’t see it on the news 24-7.”
“It is just strange to me how so many are overreacting,” Mr. Falwell, an avid Trump supporter, said. “It makes you wonder if there is a political reason for that.”
“You know, impeachment didn’t work, and the Mueller report didn’t work, and Article 25 didn’t work and so maybe now this is their next attempt to get Trump,” he said.
About 40 people have died from the virus, and The New York Times reported Friday that officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has estimated “as many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die.”
Mr. Falwell also relayed a recent conversation he had with a restaurant owner who suggested the virus could be part of a plot against the United States that has been devised by North Korean and China.
“I had the owner of a restaurant ask me last night: He said, ’You remember the leader of North Korea promised a Christmas present for America back in December? Could it be they got together with China?’ “
“I don’t know, but there is really something strange going on,” Mr. Falwell said.
