Jay Leno plans to vote for White House hopeful Joseph R. Biden if the Democratic candidate wins the party’s nomination to face President Trump in November, a report said Thursday.

The former “Tonight Show” host told The Hill he considers Mr. Biden to be a “decent man” and intends to vote for him if he becomes the party’s nominee, the outlet reported.

“People like Joe because he’s got a good character,” Mr. Leno said during a recent trip to Washington, D.C., The Hill reported.

Mr. Leno, 69, added that seeing Mr. Biden’s recent resurgence in the polls to become the Democratic front-runner made for a “feel good” moment, according to the outlet.

“It was like the end of ’It’s a Wonderful Life.’ Remember George Bailey? He was down and out and everybody shows up with money,” Mr. Leno said, The Hill reported.

“He spent $11,000 in Massachusetts — that’s one ad, really — and he won,” Mr. Leno said about the former vice president, according to the outlet. “He beat Bloomberg. I mean, I like Michael Bloomberg, but it’s nice to know that $600 million can’t replace character.”

Mr. Biden was previously widely considered to be the front-runner for the Democratic presidential before officially entering the race in April.

He subsequently experienced a slump in popularity that resulted in him polling behind several fellow Democratic candidates before recently surpassing Sen. Bernard Sanders, Vermont independent, in terms of delegates needed to become the party’s nominee in November.

Both of the Democratic candidates are currently slated to participate in their first head-to-head primary debate this Sunday.

Mr. Leno hosted NBC’s “Tonight Show” from 1992 through 2009 and again from 2010 to 2014.
