The coronavirus has now touched one of America’s most beloved movie stars.

Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks posted on Twitter that he and his wife Rita Wilson had tested positive for the virus while in Australia shooting a movie on Elvis Presley.

“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too,” he said in a statement he posted on Twitter.

“As is needed in the world right now, we were tested for Coronavirus and were found to be positive,” Mr. Hanks wrote.

Mr. Hanks said he and his family will remain in Australia. He is playing manager Tom Parker in an untitled Presley biopic by Australian director Baz Luhrmann.

The family “will be tested, observed and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires,” the actor said.

The virus has killed more than 4,600 people worldwide, though most have been elderly and/or had underlying medical conditions — situations that likely don’t apply to the star of such films as “Forrest Gump” and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”
